It's week two of #LiebFrauMarch, and again, Oisin has to step up to the challenge of creating another great wine-themed cocktail.

This week it's a New York Sour.

This one is an all time classic and favourite of mine. It dates back to the 1880's when - apparently - a bartender from Chicago came up with it, but it looks like someone from another American city really popularised it as it's commonly called The New York Sour.

The final addition of the wine gives it a delicate fruitiness that brings out the tart of the lemon and the absolute amazingness of the bourbon.

It's one for all the seasons, give it a lash sometime!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 50 ml of quality bourbon
  • 15 ml lemon juice
  • 10 ml sugar syrup
  • egg white
  • 20 ml fresh red wine such as a chianti

METHOD:

  • Chill a tumbler glass with some ice. Place all ingredients except the wine in a shaker. Seal it and shake for 10 seconds. Then take the lid off and fill it with ice and shake for another 20 seconds. Strain into the tumbler and with gently pour the wine onto the back of a spoon and into the cocktail.
