"He's a very, very complicated man. He's a rockstar but he's also quite an introverted and private person aswell"
This is how author Johnny Rogan describes Kinks frontman Ray Davies. Rogan, who has written books on artists such as Van Morrison and The Byrds, joined Tom Dunne on Monday night to discuss his latest biography, Ray Davies: A Complicated Life.
Ray Davies is often considered one of the most important musicians and lyricists of the '60s. Among his most famous credits as songwriter are Sunny Afternoon and You Really Got Me.
"I think he is up there with the Lennons and McCartneys of this world...The Kinks are one of those great heritage acts and Ray Davies is up there due to his songwriting. He's written about the class system and Englishness like no other songwriter from his generation. He was very much an iconoclast at a time of immense social and cultural change in Britain," says Rogan.
