“I knew I could change the atmosphere in a room with a song,” says Glaswegian singer Eddi Reader. It was this realisation as a child which would inform the rest of her life.
Reader, who is doing a 9 date tour of Ireland, joined Tom Dunne on last night’s show for a session. The tour culminates with a performance at Vicar St on February 19th.
Reader’s latest album, Vagabond, was released in 2014 and explores the nomad nature of being a musician.
It’s “all about the travelling we’ve done as musicians, and that’s all we’ve got really. We sit by a fire and sing a song...the A to Z of life is just the things you experience in the moment,” she explained.
Reader noted during the interview that it was music which gave her a licence for freedom as a child. She said the guitar kept her alive, realising that singing was “my way out of this, my way out of the wild west dodge that was the southern Glaswegian education system, which was very tough...I adored singing”.
