Julian Cope, author, musician and poet, joined Tom Dunne on Wednesday night, ahead of his Whelan's appearance on Saturday.
Although it has been some time since he last performed here, his interests in Ireland go beyong music.
"Last year my first novel came out and that had an Irish content and because the novel did well it's kind of goaded me into including it even more. That's one of the reasons I'm going to be over for this Dublin show," he explained.
Cope is well known for his plethora of diverse talents, from writing to poetry and musicology.
"I hit rock 'n roll at a time when you were allowed, should you demand, to be some kind of Renaissance man, you could get away with it. I don't think I could have done it if I'd started, say, five years earlier".
