Elizabeth Marcus, the director of 'No Manifesto', a new documentary about Manic Street Preachers, joined Tom Dunne on Tuesday night to explore the reasons for making her latest film.
The contributions of Manic's fans to the documentary is an essential part of the approach taken by Marcus.
"I was sick of seeing the same journalists and the same record companies, the same music industry establishment people in every documentary, not only about the Manics but also about all the British bands from that era. I decided I really wanted to do something different," she explained.
However, this didn't make the film any easier to make as there is a love/hate vibe apparent in the relationship between the band and their fans.
"As Nicky says in the film, sometimes they despise us and sometimes we despise them...and I think it's because the Manic's tend to attract, as fans, people who are a lot like they are," she said.
In terms of making the film, Marcus said that the band trusted the filmmakers completely.
"They specifically said they didn't want to have creative or editorial input into the film, and I tell you, it takes a lot of trust to say to somebody 'Come and film us while we do our work'".
