Michael Brown, lyricist and keyboardist with 1960s Baroque Pop group The Left Banke, passed away last week. Music journalist Jim Bessman joined Tom Dunne on Tuesday night's show to pay tribute to one of 20th century music's unsung heroes.
'They really had looked towards the Beatles and saw themselves as trying to be the Beatles...in terms of their composition and what they were trying to accomplish as a band,' Bessman explained.
Possibly the band's most famous single was Walk Away Renee (see below), a song which Brown wrote at the remarkably young age of just 16.
The band produced just two records before disbanding due to a variety of issues, one being their relative youth, according to former bassist Tom Finn.
