Rick Buckler, former drummer with The Jam, joined Tom Dunne on Sunday night to discuss his new autobiography, 'That's Entertainment: My Life in The Jam'.
"There was a certain magic about those ingredients that people were drawn to," said the drummer, on the appeal of the band.
Buckler was keen to stress that each member of The Jam contributed to what made it such a significant group. "It was a band ethos," he explained.
The band's premature split in 1982 came as a shock not only to the band's fans but also to Buckler himself. There was no group concensus on the issue, recalled the drummer.
"It did come as a shock that Paul wanted to burn his bridges...he'd made his mind up and didn't want to take anything on board from me or Bruce...there's no love lost. We all move on".
However, Buckler has always held Paul Weller's skills as a songwriter in high regard.
"Very observational...I'm always a great admirer of Paul's lyrics".
