Tonight's classic movie cocktail, with Oisin Davis (of Great Irish Beverages), is inspired by the 'Flaming Mame' in the classic 1958 comedy 'Auntie Mame' with Rosalind Russell.
Oisin says, “there is a classic rum cocktail that anybody can make called Dark ‘n Stormy. It contains Gosling's Dark Rum and Ginger Beer, with the option of throwing in some angostura bitters and lime juice. I recently did a twist on this drink at the Electric Picnic called Dark ‘n Horny (don't ask) and tonight I'm doing something called Dark ‘n Fiery. This is because Tom wants me to make a drink with actual fire on it. So with a little bit of very high proof poitín I can put some open flames on this wee beverage.
Ingredients:
-
50 ml Jameson
-
100 ml quality ginger beer
-
10 ml fresh lime juice
-
2 dashes of angostura bitters
-
5 ml of high abv poitín
- 1 hollowed out half of a lime, lined with tin foil
Method:
Fill a long glass with some ice. Pour in the whiskey, ginger beer, bitters and lime juice into the glass and give it a wee stir. Place the hollowed half of a lime on top of the drink and pour the poitin into it. Get your lighter out and set the poitin on fire. Then you sprinkle the cinnamon on the flame and it should sparkle like glitter.
