Allison Berg and Frank Keraudren have spent the past ten years documenting the circumstances surrounding the extraordinary events in Chase Manhattan Bank, Brooklyn, in 1972.

The film focuses on John Wojtowicz, a man who attempted to rob this bank in order to finance the gender reassignment surgery of his partner Ernest Aron. In the process he created a fourteen hour hostage situation which played out on live television.

Wojtowicz was imprisoned. However, three years later Al Pacino portrayed him in the film adaptation of the episode in the acclaimed ‘Dog Day Afternoon’.

Berg and Keraudren’s film screens at GAZE LGBT Festival at the Lighthouse Cinema on Sunday August 3rd.
