Rachel and Becky, of the Unthanks, joined Tom Dunne on Thursday's show for a session ahead of their appearance at the National Concert Hall.

The Northern English folk band have recently released their eigth album, Mount the Air. The sisters, who are renowned for their vocal harmonies, explained the genesis of their interest in music.

"Our parents just loved folk music. They loved to sing in the house. We had to go to a family party armed with a song".

There is an age gap of seven years between the sisters. Rachel feels that music has always been a big part of what makes their relationship work.

"When Becky was really little she wouldn't sing unless I sang with her. And then I went to university and we used to practice on the phone".
