It's Friday, so here's your carefully curated 'best bits' from this week's Tom Dunne Show.
Wilko Johnson
On Tuesday we were delighted to catch up with Wilko Johnson, former Dr Feelgood guitarist.
Wilko's been on an incredible journey over the past couple of years. In 2013 he was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. He turned down chemo on the basis that he wanted to enjoy the 10 months he was given to live. He went on a farewell tour with his band and made what he thought would be his final album.
Due to a chance encounter with a cancer doctor Wilko decided to undergo surgery. Doctors removed a watermelon-sized tumour during the eleven hour operation. Now Wilko is still with us and cancer free.
It's an inspiring story, and there's a lesson in there for all of us about enjoying life in the moment.
Listen to it here.
The Wilko Johnson Band play The Academy in Dublin on Friday the 29th of May & the closing night of the Rory Gallagher International Festival at the Big Top in Ballyshannon, Donegal on May 31st.
Gaz Coombes
On Tuesday we had the former Supergrass singer in to talk about his solo career and perform a few songs from his new album Matador.
Listen to the session and Gaz's spectacular voice here.
Gaz’s album Matador is out now, and he’ll be back in Ireland on July 4th to play a show at Marlay Park.
Ken Sweeney on the Go-Betweens
They're a band we'll always associate with our deeply missed friend George Byrne, but many people haven't heard of Ozzie indie-pop pioneers The Go-Betweens.
Ken Sweeney of the Irish Sun joins us armed with albums, knowledge and enthusiasm to tell you everything you need to know.
