Rory John of ShowBizGeek.Com joins Tom each week to preview and review the best and worst of the week's television:
Coming up on the tube this week...
Troy
E4, Tues 10pm.
This show features one of the UK's hottest new magicians, Troy. The young 24 year old Londoner says, “I like to play with people’s emotions by playing magic tricks on them when they least expect it”. One of his specialties is making things disappear.
Netflix Pick: House of Cards
Season Two will be ‘bundle-released’ this Friday 14th on Netflix. Season One is currently available on Netflix also.
House of Cards, based on the original 80s BBC series, marks a historic leap in the world of television. It is the first widely acclaimed and Emmy winning show which was not produced for normal television but rather for an internet format. Also unique is the distribution method. All episodes are launched together, allowing viewers to ‘binge watch’ rather than wait for the next week to see what happens.
The show follows the exploits of a highly manipulative and quietly powerful Democratic Congressman in Washington DC, played by Kevin Spacey, in one of the most lauded roles of his double-Oscar winning career.
Film of the Week:
Tom’s Pick - 'Tombstone'
Sky Movie Greats, Thursday, 8pm.
This is Tom's favourite Western, starring Val Kilmer in one of his best roles.
Rory’s Pick - The Man who Wasn’t There
Sky Movies Select, Tues, 1.40pm
Rory reckons that the Coen Brother’s 'The Man Who Wasn't There' is a somewhat under-the-radar Coen Brother's gem, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Francis McDormand, James Gandolfini & Scarlett Johansson.
