Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of our listeners. Tonight we have a great show lined up for you - some live music from one of the world's greatest banjo players, and another key guest on our '40 Years of Punk' series.
Back in November, Tom moderated the Creative Minds event at U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley's residence in the Phoenix Park. The occasion featured discussion and performance by Bela Fleck and his wife Abigail Washburn - and tonight we bring the concert to you.
Béla Fleck has won a total of 15 Grammys - with 30 nominations overall - and has been nominated in more Grammy categories than anyone else in history having reinvented the image and sound of the banjo throughout an eclectic career. Abigail Washburn is an American claw hammer banjo player, performing as a solo artist as well as playing with a number of old time and experimental groups.
Founder of the Good Vibrations label in Belfast, Terri Hooley joins Tom in the second hour for his take on '40 Years of Punk'. His label was responsible for such bands as The Undertones, The Outcasts, Rudi and Protex - making him a key player in the first wave of the punk rock movement which took over the North of Ireland in the late 1970's.
