During the World Cup our cocktail slot on the show is devoted to concoctions inspired by Brazil and other competing countries. Tonight our resident mixologist Oisin Davis, of the Damson Diner, is creating a drink based on ingredients from tomorrow night's World Cup quarter finalists: Germany, France, Colombia and Brazil...the 'Herr Presidente'...

INGREDIENTS:

  • 50 ml of Fuba Cachaca

  • 25 ml of Lillet Blanc

  • 10 ml of Cointreau

  • 1 dash of Jagermeister

  • 1 lime wedge

  • Icing sugar placed in a saucer

Oisin says: “I do love a good boozy challenge. And when I was asked if I could concoct a beverage that incorporated ingredients from all of the countries competing in the next leg of the World Cup tomorrow, I took inspiration from the bartenders that I've just spent the last 3 days hanging out with in Midleton. Every year Jameson hosts a cocktail competition that involves 36 different countries duking it out with their liquor filled creations. This year's certainly didn't disappoint and a lad from Sweden took home the trophy while all the others went back with well earned hangovers..... So the teams playing tomorrow are Germany, Brazil, France and Colombia and there's no shortage of amazing drinks and ingredients from those countries. What I've gone with is a twist on El Presidente, a rum based drink that also uses orange liqueur, white vermouth and grenadine. I've replaced the rum with cachaca, a Brazilian spirit that is also made with sugar cane. The vermouth and orange liqueurs are both from France and as a substitute for the grenadine, I've gone with that staple from Germany, Jagermeister. If you think about what Colombia is best known for, it may not be entirely legal...But I had another white powder in mind that looks very similar but is somewhat less potent, icing sugar. I put some along the rim of the glass for extra sweetness".

METHOD:

Chill a martini glass with ice.
Place the cachaca, vermouth, Cointreau and Jagermeister in a shaker with ice and stir well. Remove the ice from the glass and rub the lime wedge along the rim of the glass. Dip the glass into the sugar so that it evenly coats it. Strain the cocktail into the glass and garnish with an orange twist. Slainte!
