Taking the place of our usual 'Classic Movie Cocktail' is our series, 'World Cup Cocktails!'.
Each Thursday we are recreating a cocktail related to Brazil and a film based on or set in Brazil.
Tonight our cocktail expert Oisin Davis, of the Damson Diner, makes a Margarinha, a blend of the Caipirinha and the Margarita.
Ingredients:
-
50 ml of Olmeca Tequila
-
25 ml of Triple Sec
-
3 fresh kumquats
-
10 ml of fresh lime juice
-
1/2 teaspoon of lemon infused sugar syrup (sugar syrup cooked and aged with lemon zest)
- 2 drops of grapefruit tincture (vodka aged for 2 weeks in grapefruit zest)
Oisin says, "The national mixed drink of this year's hosts is a marvelous concoction they call the Caipirinha. It's the perfect mix of their big spirit called Cachaca (it's very similar to rum) sugar and lime juice. And what's great about it, is that there are as many versions of this drink as there are girly dives on the World Cup's pitches. One such twist on this drink doesn't even have any Cachaca. It's got Tom's favourite spirit, tequila, in it. The drink of choice for Mexicans, who are in the same group as Brazil and whose goalie Ochoa, proved himself to be the keeper of the tournament thus far. We call this cocktail the Margarinha and it's a big seller in The Damson Diner. It's very similar to the Margarita in that it uses tequila and triple sec but it uses fresh fruit in much the same way as a Caipirinha does.
