It might surprise many of you to know that in Ireland, we’ve had a long and proud tradition of musical instrument making.
Dublin’s Temple Bar might be better known for its Stag party antics now . But back in the 18th century, this was in fact the cultural quarter of eighteenth century Dublin.
Top musicians came from all over Europe to perform in Ireland….and musicians need instruments. The tradition of musical instrument making began to thrive. Thankfully, we still have a thriving community of craftspeople which produces some of the finest examples of world-class musical instruments.
Over the course of the next five weeks, listen in to Newstalk 106 FM documentary slot every Saturday evening at 7pm when Documentary maker Nuala Macklin brings us “The Hands & Hearts of the Music Makers”. She’ll be meeting some of these craftsmen who make musical instruments and enjoy some of the music.
