Former Ireland and Manchester United player John Giles joined The Football Show to discuss Bruno Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes is having a tough week.
The Manchester United attacker/midfielder was the worst player on the pitch for his side against Liverpool on Sunday. Losing 7-0 is never going to look good, but Fernandes' lack of effort made it particularly ugly on his behalf.
But his manager is standing by him.
Erik ten Hag spoke this morning to reiterate that Fernandes would remain his side's captain.
"Yes, definitely," Ten Hag said.
"I think he is playing a brilliant season and he has played a big role in us being where we are. Everyone makes mistakes and we learn. I have to learn and he will as well. No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes.
"He is intelligent. I'm really pleased he is our player and he is captain when Harry [Maguire] is not playing."
But John Giles disagrees with that decision. He believes that ten Hag is making a mistake by trusting Fernandes and sticking with him.
"I don't think the manager did a good job on the day," Giles said.
"He's backed Fernandes totally this morning. Fernandes was dreadful. In my opinion, I'm not a fan of his. I think he's a really, really talented guy, but when it comes to certain things [he's not]...if you watch every match, he's up at the referees."
And it's not a recent thing for him.
"Fernandes last year when the other manager was there, I don't think he tried a leg for the manager. And he's captain. He's got to be an inspiration."
Fernandes and Manchester United have an opportunity to rebound tonight against Real Betis in the Europa League.
The World Cup severely impacted Neymar.
