Hugo Keenan earned himself the man of the match accolade for his performance during Ireland’s victory over Wales at the weekend, further cementing himself as a standout star in Andy Farrell’s side and lamenting praise from Monday Night Rugby panel.
“I love his calmness” Keith Wood began, “he’s seems to be unflustered by pretty much everything and he’s in the right place all the time.”
“He’s got a very kind of awkward run, but he covers the ground at a ferocious rate and got ahead to stop that try at the weekend, that was pretty extraordinary” he says.
“It depends on what you’re looking for in your 15 but the one thing you want is reassurance, he’s your goaly. Anything that happens it means you’re not panicking to sprint to get back there because you know nothing is going to happen.”
Running an enormous stretch and a frightening pace to forbid Wales’ Rio Dyer that score, it’s clear the Leinster man provides just that.
“He for me has taken the jersey and has brought it to another level” Wood continued.
“One of the things for me is when I see a full back catch the ball I want to see what he’s looking to do and who he’s looking for and he’s always looking…there’s always an option.”
“I think he’s growing into a real mainstay for the team.”
