The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering a young father who was out walking with his newborn son has begun its deliberations.
Wayne Cooney, from Glenshane Drive, Tallaght, Dublin, denies murdering Jordan Davis in a laneway beside a school in Darndale in Dublin in May 2019.
It is the prosecution’s case that Jordan Davis was gunned down over a €70k drug debt. It happened in broad daylight as he was pushing his four-month-old son in a pram.
Eight shots were fired by a man on a bike. Mr Davis was hit three times.
A Garda gave evidence during the trial of identifying the man on the bike as Wayne Cooney, but he insists it wasn’t him and called that Garda’s credibility into question.
In his directions to the jury today, the judge told them to exercise caution when assessing the identification evidence. He told them they must be careful and should consider the possibility that he made a mistake, even though he said he was certain.
He asked them to use their common sense, knowledge and experience when considering the evidence.
The defence claim the prosecution’s case has “large holes” in it.
The jury spent about an hour considering the evidence today before being sent home for the night.
