A man has been seriously injured in an assault in Limerick city centre.

Gardaí say it happened shortly after midnight on Shannon Street.

A man in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone who has any information on the assault to contact them.

No arrests have yet been made.
