Former Chelsea and Everton player Pat Nevin joined The Football Show to discuss Mason Mount and his impending departure from Chelsea.
Mason Mount is a hot property for Premier League teams.
The England international has been linked with Liverpool for a long time, but he's more recently been connected with potential moves to Arsenal and Manchester United. Mount is a free agent after his contract ran out at Chelsea at the end of the season.
Like all Chelsea players, he was in and out of the team when healthy this season. But prior to that, he was a mainstay of the team, in part because of his versatility.
Mount is attractive to potential suitors because he's young, won't cost a transfer fee and he's versatile. He's proven that he can at the very least be a valued squad player at the highest level of club football.
Pat Nevin doesn't know if Mount will receive a fair offer from Chelsea.
"Twice player of the year and he's wanted, but..." Nevin began.
"I'm guessing here, I have no inside information. But if someone like Raheem Sterling comes in and earns what he's earning, which is multiples of what Mason is earning and Mason is doing so much more work, and he's been player of the year twice. Then Mason is thinking 'Really? I'm not having that. I'll go somewhere else and get that.'
"Which he will. And of course the club are thinking that's why we have a youth academy, so we can get cheap players through.
"That's all very well, but if you're the player you don't really want to be cheap anymore."
Wherever Mount winds up, he's not short of suitors.
Should Everton stick with Sean Dyche after staying in the Premier League?
