It was news nearly impossible to avoid if you were watching TV or browsing the interweb yesterday evening: the One Direction film This Is Us premiered, and the fans made sure everyone knew about it (including far more media attention than film premieres are typically granted).
The excitement hasn’t died down yet. As of writing, three of the top Dublin Twitter trends are One Direction based, at a rate of about a dozen tweets a minute. Here's a quick overview, in case you're feeling left out (no need to thank us, you're more than welcome).
There’s #tipsfornewdirectioners, which has been set up by ‘loyal’ fans to troll new fans. Because, as we all know, the long-term fans have consistently illustrated a balanced, self-depreciating sense of perspective and humour. Anyway, some samples, which are allegedly hilarious (we have been unable to confirm or deny such reports):

#1dmoviepremiere is self-explanatory. Calling some of the tweeters ‘excitable’ is an understatement. Sony Pictures helpfully uploaded a video of fans at a Dublin preview of the film. Please make note of the demographics, especially the handful of poor fathers who clearly do not want to be there:

Meanwhile, some fans changed their name to express their delight at having seen the film before everyone else. Grammar was no obstacle.

Finally, a UK radio station has kickstarted #spongedirection. We’re not entirely certain of the original context here (something to do with cake?), but it has led to lots of semi-disturbing Spongebob Squarepants / One Direction photoshop mash-ups.

This Is Us is directed, strangely enough, by Supersize Me’s Morgan Spurlock. It’s on general release from 29th August, and is expected to shatter box office records. Prepare yourself accordingly.
