While yesterday’s snow does not appear to be making a reappearance soon, homeless asylum seekers are still sleeping rough.
There are concerns for those sleeping rough as temperatures remain low, with over 100 asylum seekers in tents outside the International Protection Office (IPO) in Dublin.
Khan from Pakistan said he and other have been sleeping outside the IPO for the last month.
“Before that we were living in a hostel,” he said. “All the money went on the hostel.
“After that we came here in the tents, but it’s getting more and more difficult for us to live here.”
Andreas from Morocco feels the Government has no plan for them.
“They don't care,” he said. “When I had a problem with mental health, I tell them I can’t be outside, I’m scared.
“They don't care, they say ‘Just leave’.”
There are now 1,010 recently arrived asylum seekers without any State-provided shelter, the highest number on record.
Snow warning
The ice weather warning for Ireland is in place today until 9am.
Sudden snowfall over much of the country yesterday morning caused disruption for roads, schools and public transport.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says there could still be a few icy stretches on roads.
“There will be a bright start this morning, but the cloud will increase and then some showers seeped into the north and to the northwest and west,” he said.
“Some of those fall as sleet or even snow especially on higher ground and some of them could locally be heavy.
“It will be kind of a very mixed day, but certainly a risk of some heavy showers feeling bitterly cold and a very strong northerly wind.”
Tonight is due to be cold again with some icy stretches, as temperatures drop as low as -2 degrees.
