Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has offered his condolences to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on the passing of his mother.

City confirmed the news on Monday that Guardiola's 82-year-old mother, Dolors Sala Carrió, had died in Spain from coronavirus.

Solskjaer told his former team-mate Gary Neville that everyone at Old Trafford is thinking of the City manager at this time.

"Yeah we're all thinking about him of course, and his family," Solskjaer told Neville on Sky Sports.

"It just goes to show that we have to, when have a chance to, spend time with our loved ones and for me Pep is such a fantastic human being and a manager and one that I have admired for many many years.

"I just hope that he can take care and look after himself and look after his own family in this difficult period because you don't wish that on anyone."

Solskjaer said that all of the United coaching staff and players are keeping in touch while adhering to the UK government guidelines in relation to coronavirus.

However the United manager added that it has been a good opportunity for everyone to spend time with their families.

"Of course there will be text messages and WhatsApp messages more often," he said.

"But the biggest difference for most of us is that when you’re a footballer you don’t really get to spend much time with your family.

"That’s been a big plus, if you’re allowed to say that anything has been a big plus in this situation. But yes, we are planning, we are discussing what we have to do, what we can do, and I have to say the club has been very good so far."

United confirmed on Monday that they won't be placing staff on furlough during the coronavirus shutdown.
