Former Clare hurler Jamesie O'Connor believes the county have underachieved since winning the All-Ireland in 2013.

O'Connor joined Monday's Off the Ball to reflect on the weekend's National Hurling League action and despite Clare winning a their third successive match with a 0-23 to 0-19 win over Cork in Ennis - he thinks very little can be read into results this early in the season.

"We probably didn't kick on from 2013 the way we would have hoped and the way we would've liked. Did we underachieve? I would say we probably have given the fact that we haven't made it back to Croke Park and I think that's the key for this bunch of players now - to get back to Croke Park, to make it to the last four.

"And, ok, we probably had chances and opportunities but didn't deserve to win the Munster final. It certainly was one that could have been won.

"Again, we were probably disappointed coming out of Pairc Uí Chaoimh last year when we lost to Tipp but again I still think the better team won on the day.

"So the challenge for us - the window is closing for Tony Kelly and these guys now - they're arguably heading into the peak their careers and they want, more than anybody, to get back to Croke Park.

"It's a good start to the year but that's all it is. There's still a lot of work to be done but ultimately we'll be judged not on how we doing the league but how we perform in the Championship.

"The first step is to make it into that top three in Munster and get out of the province," he added.
