“"Tyrone’s way ahead of Derry at the minute, way ahead. Double scores I can see, no problem."

Certainly Tyrone legend Owen 'Mugsy' Mulligan is confident about his county's opening clash in the Ulster Championship.

But how does his former Tyrone team-mate Enda McGinley see things playing out?

He joined us on Off The Ball to preview that game and the wider provincial competition.

"If you're being completely honest, that opinion isn't far off for the first game here against Derry," he said of Mulligan's prediction.

Monaghan

"But the rest of the Ulster Championship, for me, Monaghan's a hard team to judge. We don't really know where they're at.

"They had an average National League campaign at best. But there's still a serious, strong panel there. Maybe Malachy O'Rourke has taken a different approach with them this year and timing their Championship run.

"Donegal playing in Division 2 weren't under the spotlight as much. They've developed a lot of players. It depends on some of their bigger players in terms of injuries.

"The likes of McBrearty, it depends what type of form he comes back in. But again, if Donegal get out their strongest 15, they're going to be serious, serious opponents.

"So Tyrone are definitely, for me, the top team in Ulster at the moment. But that doesn't mean you win an Ulster Championship. You have to hit big form on the big days."

He also analysed the changes Tyrone have made for 2019, including in being more direct in attack.

"And Tyrone have high quality footballers, so they have been able to make that change," McGinley added.

"And it has worked brilliantly for them. But the problem is teams will now be looking to stop that. The fact that Tyrone have a Plan A and Plan B should leave them in a much stronger place for challenging the big guns."
