Olympic Silver Medalist Annalise Murphy revealed how the Volvo Ocean Race pushed her to the brink of her capabilities.

She joined Off the Ball at the weekend to talk about her experiences during the 45,000 mile race and speaking to Nathan, she said: "I was really proud of myself that I didn't quit because I nearly quit in Hong Kong.

"Initially, the only thing that managed to keep me sane from Melbourne to Hong Kong was my plan that I was going to get off the boat, go straight to the airport and book the first flight back to Europe. I didn't care where in Europe just back to Europe so I could get home.

"And then I got in and thought 'I haven't showered in three weeks - they mightn't let me on a plane!' So I was like 'I'll go and have a shower first" and then I got back to the hotel and was really tired and had a night's sleep first and then I spent a week just talking to people and I told a lot of people that I wanted to quit and go home and then a few people convinced me I should try and stay and keep on doing it and then our skipper said 'I really want you to keep on being in the team.'

"And then I thought 'Well, I've got loads of friends in Auckland so I just need to manage to get to Auckland and then I'll get to see them.'

"Every stopover we got five or six days off and there was loads of really cool places so I got to see some amazing countries and cities around the world as I made my way around," she added.
