Former Irish international Alan Quinlan joined Friday's OTB AM to discuss Joey Carbery's move from Leinster to Munster.
I think it's a great signing for Munster'" he told Adrian. "Its been speculated over for the last number of weeks that it was going to happen - I think it's down to the player ultimately himself. Now I know, has he been nudged that way?
"We know it started with Ulster and having no fly-half with the Paddy Jackson situation. I think the timing, and I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, wasn't great and Joe Schmidt admits that but the question had to be asked of Leinster and of the players to see if either of them were interested; Ross Bryne or Joey Carbery, in moving and that came from Ulster because literally they have no fly-half.
"They wanted to sign a fly-half, an overseas player and there's obviously a bit of an overload in Munster and an overload in Leinster and can they take on of those?
"Obviously their preference was Carbery or Ross Byrne to go to Ulster and that question had to be asked because David Nucifora has to grant permission if you want to go overseas and that's how the conversation started," he added.
"In the last couple of weeks - I was speaking to ROG and he is better placed than us to discuss what makes a good fly half and we hear a lot bout game management and control, first and foremost, and the other skills that come with it.
"Joey Carbery is a real natural talent and he has this flair and ability to step. He has great passing skills - you saw the break he made last week - he stood up Hadleigh-Parkes who is a really good defender for Wales and the Scarlets. He has the ability to do that - his passing game is brilliant.
"The question mark is and it's probably been the question marks over the fly-halves at Munster is game management and authority and someone who takes control."
"The challenge now for Munster is that can they hold on to him? -Is this a short-term gig? It's reported it's going to be two years. Can they hold on to him now and create something for him so he sees development, he sees opportunity to win more European Cups and win trophies and we've asked the question a few times: how far away are they from Leinster?
"It feels like a bit of a game changer - there's no doubt about it. It's a magnificent signing and he's Irish - they've not gone overseas."
