Leeds and Ireland legend discusses Manchester United and Liverpool as well as the Champions League

John Giles feels Manchester United should wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer permanently.

Solskjaer will lead his in-form team against Liverpool on Sunday. Since he took charge as interim manager, the club have lost only once. That came against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week.

Otherwise, Man United are back in contention for the Top Four and are into the FA Cup quarter-finals.

But while there is a clamour to appoint Solskjaer from some quarters, John is not so sure.

"He's done everything that's asked of him," said John of the Norwegian.

Liverpool

"I would wait until the end of the season to make a decision on it because there's some tests to go yet.

"He came in at the right time with the fixtures. The fixture list was very, very good and he's had a couple of hard ones which he's dealt with very well. So I would hold my judgement on it."

On the Man United vs Liverpool game, John's prediction is a 1-1 draw.

But on the European front, he backs Liverpool to complete the task against Bayern Munich. The Reds drew 0-0 at Anfield before heading for the second leg in Munich.

"I think Liverpool are in with a chance. Bayern Munich haven't taken advantage of the away goals, so Liverpool get one, Bayern need two to beat them," he said.

"They're well in with a chance."

And he is not ruling them out of going all the way in the Champions League.

"They're capable of winning it. They're also capable of winning the league which is the other thing," he said.

"So are Manchester City. But if they play as well as they can, I wouldn't write them off in either of the competitions."
