Does John Giles think Arsene Wenger should return to management?

The legendary former Arsenal manager hasn't been on the touchline since departing the Emirates in May 2018.

But reports linked him to the Bayern Munich vacancy as a stop-gap for the remainder of the season, following the Bavarian club's decision to sack Niko Kovac.

However, it appears they have decided not to pursue the Frenchman as an option.

Ireland and Leeds legend John reckons a short-term return to management would be a bad option for him.

"If I were him, I wouldn't take to the end of the season," he said.

"That's a very, very temporary business and his reputation is so high that he doesn't need to prove himself for six months.

"I can't see him taking that"

"I know he's been out of the game since last year. But I think it would be a bad move if they're saying, 'We need you for six months'. It doesn't matter how well he does. He'd be expected to do well anywhere. It's very difficult for any manager to go in, unless they're really desperate for the job. I can't see him taking that."

Wenger enjoyed incredible highs with Arsenal before it slowly petered out. But how high would his reputation be now?

"It wouldn't be as high as five years ago. But you don't lose it," said John.

"I don't think the manager ever loses it. Maybe they get older and they mightn't be as enthusiastic as they were years ago. But they certainly never lose the knowledge because it's all experience all the time. And that's why I think Wenger wouldn't take his job on a six month basis."
