Former All-Ireland winning hurling manager Liam Griffin has praised the influence of Davy Fitzgerald on the Wexford panel as their impressive league form continues.
Griffin joined Friday's OTB AM to discuss the progress made in the Model County and speaking to Adrian Barry, he said: "Davy has done a tremendous job. I'm absolutely delighted that Davy is there - he is box office.
"He's good for Wexford - He's exactly what we need at the moment in my view. That team, a lot of those guys won three-in-a-row in Leinster under-21 and also there's been a lot of work done with those right back to Tony Forristal which is under-14 - Tom Dempsey, Billy Byrne, Liam Dunne - a lot of fellas put a lot of effort in there, Georgie O'Connor, David Guiney and then Davy comes along and has taken it to the next level, to be fair and he has done a fantastic job.
"He is exactly what we need to be where we are now in Division 1A because we've got a lot of emerging young talent hopefully and this is where they need to be."
"Davy is bringing passion to it. We get kind of 'smart-alecy' about guys like Davy on occasions - I just like the way he wears his heart on his sleeve. He's totally non-kosher and he does a lot of stuff which grates on the establishment and grates on everybody - grates on myself on occasion but you can't deny he has the nack of dealing with young guys and getting more out of them and he brings that 'west of Ireland' passion and that's not to say that Wexford people lack passion but we're a bit slow to develop it on occasions but he has done that and he brings a wealth of experience.
"He's won All-Ireland medals, he has won them on the field of play, he's been in the theatre, he knows what it's about so he's bringing all of that together," he added.
