The current All-Ireland ladies senior club champions - Carnacon - have reportedly been thrown out of the 2018 Mayo senior club championship by the county board over withdrawals of their players from panel contention.

Castlebar-based newspaper The Connaught Telegraph report that the action came under the auspices of Rule 288, which stipulates "[any] member of the Association found guilty of conduct calculated to bring the Association into disrepute shall be liable to expulsion or suspension by the Committee, Board or Council concerned".

The decision comes after eight Carnacon players withdrew from contention for county selection following the Connaught final between Mayo and Galway in June, citing in their statement that "player welfare issues that are personal and sensitive to the players involved" were the reason.

At the time of writing, the Mayo county board have not issued a statement confirming the suspension, but several sources close to last night's meeting at which the decision was made, have confirmed that this is the case.

Carnacon have yet to be officially contacted by the county board either, but have confirmed that they had a club representative at the county board meeting last night.
