A new political party is being launched in Ireland, calling for Ireland to leave the European Union.
The Irexit Freedom Party will be formally launched at an event in Dublin on September 8th, and is planning to run in both European and national elections.
According to the party, it also wants to "achieve the consent of the voters of Northern Ireland" for a united Ireland.
Other policies being adopted by the new party include a call for reduced taxation on citizens; a 'pro-natalist' stance in support of the 'procreation, education and rearing of children'; and a goal to 'tackle corruption in key governmental institutions'.
Spokesperson Hermann Kelly - who is currently the communications head for a group of Eurosceptic MEPs - claimed Ireland's EU membership has 'not been a good deal'.
He argued: “There is now an economic and political imperative for Ireland to take back control of our full law-making powers to work for the best interests of the Irish people.
"Whatever the EU has done for us in the past, going forward it will become a very cold house, with our biggest trading partner leaving, our net EU contributions increasing and our influence waning."
While Mr Kelly is listed as the only speaker set to represent the new party during the launch conference on September 8th, it will also include "independent speakers" such as former Irish ambassador Ray Bassett.
A poll earlier this year showed an overwhelming majority - 92% - of Irish people think the country should remain in the European Union.
