Anthony Moyles joined Hugo MacNeill and Dan McDonnell on the Saturday Panel to discuss the future of sport as they attempted to peer into a crystal ball and predict what lies in store.

Tommy Martin raised the subject of technology and how audiences will potentially consume sport in the future as the array of options available to sports fans continues to grow.

And Moyles believes the shortening of attention spans in younger generations is affecting the way in which they observe and take in sporting action.

“It’s funny when you think of the technology and the virtual stuff that’s coming on board,” Moyles said.

“When you think of 20 to 30 years ago and where we were and when you think of 20-30 years ahead – it’s quite scary when you think of what we could potentially be looking at.”

Moyles also touched on the potential of sport changing dramatically to an almost unrecognisable level, where the influence of technology could really take hold.

“Some games are so brutal, say the NFL, where guys are getting broken down continuously and it’s incredible the amount of guys who by the end of the year are gone,” Moyles added.

“When you just follow a team and specific names, you really see the attrition level –it’s unbelievable. Knees blown out and never play again.

“You talk about this Esports thing and they were talking about the potential of artificial intelligence and robots playing sport and us just watching it.”
