Australia attacking coach Stephen Larkham believes that Joey Carbery is the equal of Johnny Sexton and - in some respects - better.

Larkham was speaking to OTB AM, where his interview saw him discuss the state of Australian rugby, the Irish prospects at the World Cup, and insights into working with Eddie Jones and Michael Cheika.

On his personal experience of moving between numbers ten and fifteen, Larkham provided an insight that Carbery might be able to use to his benefit at Munster next season.

"Just talking about my personal experience, it was an opportunity that was created because players were retiring. When I played my first test at five-eighth, it was because there was no-one in Australia who had that experience and they gave me that opportunity."

In relation to Carbery taking over from Rob Kearney, Larkham is confident that he has the requisite skills to do so.

"He is very skilful. there's no doubt about that. I see that he has the skills for both positions. I like what he does in attack at five-eighth - he hasn't had a lot of time there, I know. He plays a slightly different game to Johnny [Sexton] but he's equally as dangerous, and probably more dangerous with ball in hand, as a running threat.

"I think he sees the game really well. I think he's got enough speed as well to play in that full-back position."
