The Sunday Paper review believe relations between Liverpool Football club and the residence that live in the surrounding Anfield area have improved.

The Merseyside club bought houses over the last number of years as they planned to extend their stadium.

Hector Ó hEochagáin & Colm Keys joined Joe Molloy on this week’s review.

The club from the 1990’s bought housing property around their Anfield ground. In many cases, some residence would not sell their property. The area has become extremely disperse over the last number of years and has some of the highest crime rates in the United Kingdom.

OTB'S Joe Molloy believes the club have a responsibility to its many supporters that live in the area. Molloy also says he thinks it was a pretty shameful way to treat its fans.

the s“Buying as many houses as they could, hoovering them up. Some people didn’t want to sell, quite naturally. And Liverpool would just leave – ‘Tinned up’ was the phrase – those houses were often left unoccupied, or set alight or they had squatters. The neighbourhood just went downhill completely, and it’s a shameful way to treat a lot of Liverpool supporters.”

The panel were discussing Dave Conn’s article from today’s Sunday Independent.

Colm Keys says he feels as though relations have greatly improved between residence and the club, after reading the piece.

“The thrust of this pieces is that relations have improved. That’s what I get from it. And even Liverpool’s deputy mayor, and she’s a cabinet member for regeneration. Ann O’Beirne is her name - “We talk about neighbours, and Liverpool FC need to be good neighbours, as well. People are still annoyed after what they did, but the club has stepped up.’
