It's 10 years since the symbol was first used by a twitter follower to group a specific topic.

Since then the humble hashtag grown to become one of the most widely used characters of the digital age - including by campaign groups in other media.

125 million hashtags are used globally on Twitter every day - the most popular include MUFC, TheWalkingDead and StarWars.
